GRAND PRAIRIE -- Police and firefighters recovered the body of a 41-year-old Mansfield man from Joe Pool Lake on Friday.
Authorities were alerted at about 11 a.m. by a witness who said Robert Kilgore jumped out of his pontoon boat to tie it to a bridge pillar so he could fish. The boat then drifted out of his reach.
Kilgore disappeared beneath the lake's surface about 30 or 40 yards from shore, police said.
It took divers with the Grand Prairie Fire Department two hours to find Kilgore's body near the 5900 block of Lake Ridge Parkway, according to authorities. The Tarrant County medical examiner's office has not yet ruled on the cause of death.

Kilgore might have survived had he been wearing a life jacket, said Sgt. Chris Chopin, Grand Prairie police. The police have no evidence of foul play and are investigating the incident as an accident, Chopin said.
