1 teenage girl dies, another 'critical' in Dallas shooting

DALLAS -- Police on Monday searched for the gunman who fatally wounded a 17-year-old girl in a neighborhood a few blocks southwest of Love Field.

Anna Montano, 17, was identified by the Dallas County medical examiner's office.

She was shot while walking with a 15-year-old girl at about 5 a.m. in the parking lot of a business in the 8100 block of Harry Hines Boulevard, police said.

Witnesses told investigators that the girls were approached by a man who shot them and then fled, said Lt. Vernon Hale, police spokesman.

Both girls were taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where Montano was pronounced dead, and the 15-year-old girl was listed in critical condition, Hale said.

The suspect was described as a Latin male, Hale said, but no other information was immediately available about him.

"Investigators are interviewing witnesses and following leads," Hale said.
