Nothing warms you up like a nice, hot beverage — but it’s too bad that beverages don’t stay hot for long. You know how it goes: You’re at work, you get distracted by something, and next thing you know, that piping hot cup of coffee is now lukewarm. Or maybe you’re on a trip or camping out, and that warm cuppa that’s supposed to kick-start your day goes cold in minutes. That’s where self-heating mugs like Nextmug’s Temperature-Controlled Coffee Mug come in.

Featuring battery-controlled temperature settings, the Nextmug can be used at home and on the move, and Amazon is offering it at 23% off for the holiday season. Let’s check out why this mug makes for a great last-minute stocking stuffer or year-round gift for the coffee and tea drinkers in your life.

The key advantage the Nextmug has over traveling or insulated mugs is that it maintains a consistent temperature, even over several hours. All you have to do is switch the mug on and set the temperature (you have a choice of “warm,” “hot” and “piping”). Then, the heating elements and sensors in the mug go to work, warming up your brew in seconds and maintaining the right temperature.

If you keep the mug attached to its charging coaster, you can keep your beverage hot or warm indefinitely. But if you’re on the go, the mug will stay at its correct temperature for up to five hours, depending on which temperature you set. When we took the Nextmug on a trip, we just turned it on whenever we were ready to drink, and a single battery charge lasted us through a whole weekend.

The mug is no slouch in the design department, either. A ceramic matte finish covers its stainless steel body, giving it a comfortable feel even at high temperatures, and it’s easy to give it a simple hand-wash when needed. The mug’s 14-ounce capacity gives you more than enough capacity for a satisfying portion of coffee, tea or hot chocolate every time. The included spill-resistant lid is also a nice touch, helping the mug retain heat even in the great outdoors.

Put it all together, and you get a hot drink that’s satisfying from the first sip to the last. Even if we’re buying hot drinks at a coffee shop, we’ve gotten in the habit of just emptying the cup into our Nextmug, ensuring a drink at the right temperature when we want it. We recommend it for any hot beverage lovers who want to banish unintentional cooled-down beverages from their lives.
