Hold on to your hats because 'Friday Night Lights' is close to being back in your life.

Unfortunately for fans of Tim Riggins the new film version will not be connected to the television show, which aired on NBC, and starred Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and Taylor Kitsch.

It also won't be a sequel to the big screen adaptation of H.G. Bissinger's best-selling book. That movie also featured Britton alongside Billy Bob Thornton.

According to Variety, Universal is in the final stages of negotiations with David Gordon Green to direct a new take on Bissinger's book about Permian High School football team and their efforts to capture a state championship in 1988.
