Texas rapper Travis Scott honored with key to Missouri City

2018 is shaping up to be a big year for Texas-bred rapper Travis Scott.

Just nine days after welcoming his first child (a daughter named Stormi) with reality star Kylie Jenner, the 25-year-old Missouri City native was presented with the key to his hometown on Saturday by Mayor Allen Owen, according to local ABC affiliate KTRK.

The city will now refer to Feb. 10 as Travis Scott Day.

In video posted to the official Missouri City Facebook page, Scott expressed his gratitude for the honor.

“This is better than any award show I’ve ever been to,” Scott said. “My only job is just to inspire kids to be the best they can be, to reach their ultimate height. Everybody has a dream and everybody can do it.”

The ceremony, which was part of the city's annual Black History Month Celebration of Culture and Music, was attended by Houston Rockets star James Harden, as well as members of Scott's family. After the presentation, Scott performed his hit song “Butterfly Effect.”
