This week, we posed two questions on Facebook: What’s your favorite Christmas song — and which makes you cringe when you hear it?

The “cringe” question got a lot of response, so we’re doing a poll. (Don’t worry, those of you who love all holiday music — we’ll do a poll for you, too.)

Some of the cringe-worthy songs that came up surprised us a little. OK, surprised me — I happen to like Wham’s “Last Christmas.” But I have to sympathize with comments like this one: “I hate ‘Last Christmas’!! It’s a breakup song that takes place at Christmas. Stop playing it.”

Then there are the ones that aren’t so surprising.

“ ‘Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.’ It ceased being funny years ago.”

That one by Alvin and the Chipmunks. I worked in an office that played it constantly.”

‘Santa Baby’ by Madonna — truly cringe worthy” (actually, manyversions of “Santa Baby” were mentioned in the comments, so it’s not just Madonna).

Current events made some already, um, timeless songs even more icky: “ ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside.’ She says no a dozen times so he liquors her up to stay. In today’s climate of sex assault accusations it seems bizarre it would be such a popular song.”

And then there were a couple of comments like this one: “All of them.”

So here’s our poll. A few particularly annoying ones (Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” gets on a lot of people’s nerves) did miss the cut, but when you have Chipmunks begging for Hula Hoops and dogs barking “Jingle Bells,” you have to push a few others out the door.

To narrow it down to the worst of the worst, we ask that you vote only one time, for only one song. You have through Dec. 7 to cast your vote. Let the bah-humbugging commence!
