Faye’s out again this week, community fans, so she’s asked me to let you know about the next round of events heading your way. Let’s get started with a look at the action coming out of Colleyville:

Tasty good fun

City Slickers Auction offers networking, shopping, nosh

If the notion of doing good for your community while also eating and shopping in high style sounds like your idea of a good time, you just might want to snag a ticket or two to the 33rd annual City Slickers Auction while you still can.

The Colleyville Area of Chamber Commerce signature shindig, which is expected to draw more than 800 attendees, will offer a sinfully delicious smorgasbord of samples from area eateries, including Boi Na Braza, Boulevard Eatz, Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop and Texas Roadhouse, just to name a few — along with craft beer, wine and premium bourbon tastings, all enjoyed to live music.

However, the real star of the event is a plus-size auction, perfect for those who like to go and do, that this year will include a race car driver experience at Texas Motor Speedway and a Willie Nelson bus tour, as well as the auction’s always-popular “liquor wagons” provided by Bear Creek Spirits & Wine.

Additionally, guests can purchase VIP raffle tickets for chances to win premium liquor and cigar packages, spa treatments and collectibles.

“People can enjoy networking, dancing, live music and delicious food with an opportunity to bid on some great auction items, all while socializing with members of the community,” said Randy Johnson, who is co-chairing this year’s event along with Genny Hale.

Proceeds from the party benefit business programs sponsored by the chamber, as well as charity programs sponsored by 6 Stones and North Texas SNAP.

Lunch with a side of fashion?

Colleyville Woman’s Club benefit is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser

And speaking of things Colleyville, there’s still time to purchase tickets for the Colleyville Woman’s Club’s fashion benefit, Lunch With the Girlz. (You know it’s gonna be a lot of fun when they whip out that sassy “z.”)

For years, the luncheon has delighted guests with a first-class runway show featuring professional models, a few familiar faces from the community and some of the adorable children and grandchildren of the club’s membership, all wearing up-to-the-minute fashions from Dillard’s.

If all of those yummy outfits put you in the mood for a little shopping, you’re in luck, because the luncheon includes an auction as well as a super-fun raffle where guests can buy $100 chances for a “key” that unlocks a treasure chest of luxury prizes, including gorgeous trinkets from Haltom’s. Also returning this year is the event’s popular “Experience Board” and the “Dine and Dash,” which gives guests opportunities to win trips, adventures and dining gift certificates.

Funds generated will be invested in Tarrant County charitable organizations, including women’s shelters, children’s charities, literacy organizations and other social services.

“Over the years, the Colleyville Woman’s Club has achieved a charitable outreach of over $3 million to benefit the lives of area women and their families,” said fashion show chair Tanya Morris. That’s some pretty impressive work, ladies!

A race of survivors and champions

Race for the Cure raises spirits and hope, as well as funds for the fight against breast cancer

You’ve also still got time to make plans to participate in the Komen Greater Fort Worth Race for the Cure, which celebrates breast cancer survivors and honors the memories of those who have succumbed to a disease that is predicted to strike more than 300,000 people this year in the U.S. alone.

Since 1983, the legendary event has grown from a small fun run held in Dallas to a global phenomenon that attracts more than a million participants a year.

Participants in the Fort Worth race, which features a parade and a catered brunch for survivors as well as 1-mile and 5K runs, will have the chance to earn a special pink parasol they can use in the parade if they raise or donate at least $50.

“Pinwheels of Promise,” which will be displayed along the race, are also available for purchase to celebrate or honor the memory of loved ones affected by breast cancer.

Winners of the competitive race categories will receive a commemorative medal, while top fundraisers will win an American Airlines travel voucher worth 25,000 points. Funds raised support local breast cancer screenings, treatment and education programs, as well as national research.

“As someone who is currently fighting breast cancer, Race for the Cure is an important event because it inspires thousands in our community to come together to raise money for research and treatments and support those who have been affected by the disease,” said Lisa Ferrand, the top fundraiser for the Fort Worth race.

“My Race for the Cure team quickly became my support system during my battle,” she added. “I have never felt alone in my journey because of my team, and we know each dollar we raise will help someone else facing a similar battle.”
