Greater Keller Women’s Club readies Fashion Gala

An extreme makeover of the Garden of Roses event long produced by the Greater Keller Women’s Club will hallmark the platinum anniversary of the event set for March 28 at the Speedway Club ballroom.

After 19 years of hosting a daytime luncheon and runway-style-show format, organizers have chosen an exciting transformation to wow guests with a fresh new approach for the 20th edition of the fundraiser that enables the foundation arm of the club to donate thousands of dollars to local charities each year.

Bold changes include moving the party from day to evening and dispensing with the catwalk-style show, but club members are confident the new format will expand the audience and breathe new life into what they are now dubbing the Fashion Gala Platinum Celebration.

Adding live music and dancing along with a new twist on the fashion element that will include informal modeling during dinner was a strategy designed to appeal to couples instead of the primarily ladies event of the past.

“It’s a complete fresh approach that I know everyone is going to love,” said Gayle Clark, gala co-chairwoman. Clark said the reimagining of the event began when member Trinity Hillard agreed to be the co-chair and enthusiastically embraced the idea of doing something different.

“Our theme is ‘The Magic Continues,’ and we have spared no expense to ensure the food is delicious, the music inspiring and the auction items are ones you don’t want to miss,” said Hillard. “Texas Motor Speedway never disappoints with their beautiful location and amazing food. This is the event of 2015.”

Stein Mart in Keller, an event sponsor, will capably handle the fashion element, bringing in models wearing stunning fashions for men and women who will walk among the tables during dinner and give guests an up-close look at the outfits. “It’s a chance for everyone to see the gorgeous clothes, ask questions about the ensembles and see Stein Mart’s fabulous spring collection,” said Clark.

Emcee and auctioneer is retired San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman and two-time Super Bowl champion Jeff Stover, whose affable demeanor will be an audience hit. Dance music by Moore Melodies of David Moore Productions is guaranteed to get couples on the dance floor until the lights go out.

Headlining the live auction is a breathtaking $5,000 diamond necklace from Bellagio Jewelers and a 5-day stay in a beautiful home in Taos, N.M. And for the guys, a handsome fully stocked tool chest by Snap-On worth $4,000 likely means a bidding war.

Silent auction swag includes jewelry, purses, outdoor items and gorgeous home decor lighting packages among a slew of other goodies. Guests can also contribute to the cause by purchasing raffle tickets and pulling a cork on the wine pull.

Club spokeswoman Debbie Dodge said guests will have some fun “taking selfies wearing an authentic Super Bowl ring while posing with Jeff Stover.”

Since 1996, the Greater Keller Women’s Club Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in grants to area charities and other non-profit organizations. Friends of the TCU Library host author Peter Stark at annual dinner

It’s time for supporters of the TCU library to show the love by getting a ticket for the Annual Dinner coming up March 17 at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center.

The festive evening begins with cocktails at 6:30 where guests will enjoy live entertainment performed by a piano and sax duo before dinner is served at 7.

The featured guest is adventure and exploration writer Peter Stark, author of Astoria: John Jacob Astor and Thomas Jefferson’s Lost Pacific Empire, A Story of Wealth, Ambition, and Survival.

According to a news release, Stark was longtime correspondent for Outside magazine and has had essays published in Smithsonian, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Men’s Journal and other publications. One of his books was named’s No. 1 sports/outdoor book of 2001.

Nominations are open for advocates for disabled

Arlington-based agency Helping Restore Ability announces that nominations for the Sam Provence Award are being accepted.

The Arlington-based nonprofit is one of the premier agencies serving people with disabilities, most notably providing in-home care for the disabled to enable them to go about their daily lives self-sufficiently and with dignity.

The agency annually honors an individual who works tirelessly to enhance the lives of people with disabilities with the Sam Provence Award, named in honor of the agency’s founder. Nominees will be introduced at the annual Hand in Hand luncheon the spring where the winner will be revealed.
