Burleson police investigate 3 attempted child abductions

BURLESON — Police are investigating three attempted child abductions and said they believe two may be related.

In two attempted abductions that occurred on Saturday and Monday, witnesses told officers the suspect drove away in a small, gray Dodge pickup.

In an attempted abduction about 8:40 a.m. Saturday, a 9-year-old girl was walking her puppy in the 1000 block of Remington Circle, police said in a news release.

The puppy started growling and the girl looked up and saw the suspect approach. The girl went inside her apartment and locked the door. The suspect went to the back door and motioned the girl to come to the door, police said. The girl got her mother, who went outside and saw the small Dodge pickup driving away.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s or 30s, with short brown hair, average build, and wearing an orange and white University of Texas sweatshirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes.

In an attempted abduction about 5:40 p.m. Monday, a 10-year-old boy got off a school bus at Remington Circle. As he crossed the street to his front door, a man pulled up and yelled at the boy to come to his vehicle, police said. The boy went in his apartment and locked the door. The suspect drove away in a small Dodge pickup, police said.

In an abduction attempt that occurred about an hour earlier Monday, a 14-year-old girl was walking home from school in the 500 block of Jayellen Avenue and wearing earphones. The suspect grabbed her from behind, but she struggled and got away, police said.

The suspect ran away and the girl saw a white, two-door, Acura driving off, police said. The suspect is described as a man wearing a black hoodie, dark blue jeans, and black DC tennis shoes.

People are asked to report any suspicious activity to police by calling 817-426-9903 or Crime Stoppers, 817-295-5323. Call 911 during an emergency, police said.
