New book from crime author Val McDermid

Here’s what’s new in bookstores:

▪ Splinter the Silence by Val McDermid (Atlantic Monthly Press, $26) — The bestselling crime author takes on cyberbullying in the ninth installment of her beloved “Tony Hill and Carol Jordan Mystery” series. Tony and Carol are reunited to track down a serial killer for the digital age. Outspoken feminists are being targeted and tormented via social media, resulting in a number of high-profile suicides — or could it be murder?

▪ The Age of Reinvention by Karine Tuil (Atria Books, $27) — The award-winning French author makes her U.S. debut with this international bestseller, first published in 2013 in France. It’s the story of three friends — Samir, Samuel and Nina, who meet at law school in the 1980s in France — and the choices they make, including some based on a lie. There are consequences for all three as the past inevitably catches up with them.

▪ All of Us and Everything by Bridget Asher (Bantam, $15) — Bestselling author Julianna Baggott writes under her pen name to delve into the lives of the Rockwell women — Augusta and daughters Esme, Liv and Ru. The sisters never knew their absentee father, believing (thanks to Augusta) that he was an international spy called away on dangerous missions. When Hurricane Sandy brings them all back together, family secrets are unearthed.
