Golden Globes fashion: best and worst from the red carpet
The 2015 award season kicked off Sunday night with the 72nd Golden Globes, and with it came the start of another red carpet season that is sure to be filled with lots of high fashion hits and misses.
Surprisingly, this year’s Golden Globes red carpet provided us with more hits than misses. While it made our job of picking best dressed just a little bit harder, it left us excited for the fashions to come this awards season.
Here are our picks for best and worst dressed, as well as best accessory, best dressed couple and best dressed actor.
Best dressed
Jessica Chastain
With so many hits on the red carpet this year, it looked like we’d have our job cut out for us with picking the best of the night. Then Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture nominee Jessica Chastain hit the red carpet in a sizzling number by Versace and left all our other picks in the dust.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Making our end-of-year list for the best 2014 awards season fashion, Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus continued her streak with another red carpet success. Wearing a gorgeous white gown by Narciso Rodriguez, Louis-Dreyfus proved she has no plans to stop her reign of sartorial perfection anytime soon.
Amy Adams
When you’re a red carpet veteran like Amy Adams, you’ve been around long enough to know what works for you in terms of style. To no one’s surprise, the Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy winner looked glamorous in a pastel one-shoulder gown by Versace.
Gina Rodriguez
When you’re a newcomer to the red carpet, it can be easy to have some missteps. But Best Actress in a Television Series, Comedy winner Gina Rodriguez looked every bit a seasoned pro, thanks to a strapless black number by Badgley Mischka.
Worst dressed
Keira Knightley
Always known for having impeccable style, we were shocked (and kind of sad) to see best supporting actress nominee Keira Knightley step out in a super unflattering gown by Chanel. Between the monstrous tiers of ruffles and the sparkly butterfly appliqués, we’re hoping to see her rebound with something more stylish at the Screen Actors Guild awards.
Lana Del Rey
With her reputation for having a quirky, retro style, we had no idea what to expect from best song nominee Lana Del Rey. Turns out her mermaid-inspired gown would end up being one the night’s biggest misses.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
After hitting all the right fashion notes at last year’s Golden Globes, it seemed like hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler had finally found the secret to awards show-style success. Then they stepped out on the red carpet and it became clear they had regressed. All we can say is that these gorgeous, funny women deserve something better.
Rosamund Pike
After giving birth just five weeks ago, Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike stepped out on the red carpet looking as fit and radiant as ever. Unfortunately, her dowdy Vera Wang gown did little to complement her glowing look.
Best accessory
Besides the dress, the number one way to grab attention on the red carpet is with the accessories. There was certainly no one who accessorized as well as actress Naomi Watts, who decided to complement her yellow Gucci gown with a sparkling, diamond-encrusted snake necklace by Bulgari.
Best-dressed couple
Move over George and Amal. The adorable duo of Emily Blunt and John Krasinkski had are attention for many reasons, including their great sense of style. While Krasinksi opted for a classic black tux, Blunt looked ethereal in a white Grecian-inspired number by Michael Kors paired with gorgeous Lorraine Schwartz earrings.
Best-dressed actor
Having previously modeled for British fashion house Burberry, it should come as no surprise that Theory of Everything star (and Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama nominee) Eddie Redmayne has quite the style chops. Breaking away from the standard black tuxedo, he wowed us with a velvet suit by Gucci.
