LPD: Driver charged with evading arrest, DWI after fleeing traffic stop
A man was arrested after evading a traffic stop while driving a pickup truck that later became disabled in south Laredo, according to the Laredo Police Department.
An officer observed a black 2020 Ford F-150 speeding southbound on South Zapata Highway at about 2:23 a.m. June 7.
Near Palo Blanco Street and South U.S. 83, the truck was allegedly swerving between lanes, driving on the shoulder and operating in a manner that showed disregard for the safety of other motorists.
When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver continued traveling south on U.S. 83, police said.
The vehicle began leaking radiator coolant during the incident and eventually became disabled near South U.S. 83 and Pita Mangana Road before stopping in the 4500 block of Wright Way, according to police.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Javier Alberto Cuevas, was charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, a third-degree felony; driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor; and reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor.
Jail records show Cuevas was booked into Webb County Jail and released the same day after posting bonds totaling $13,000.
