Cat-eye seekers should check out Burberry’s new mascara

Much like turtleneck sweaters and pumpkin spice lattes, new makeup products are part of the promises the transition from summer to fall brings with it.

Among this season’s most noteworthy (and possibly splurge-worthy) products comes a feline-inspired mascara by the British brand Burberry.

Available in three flattering shades (jet black, chestnut brown and midnight blonde), the Burberry Cat Lashes Mascara ($29, Sephora) is designed to give beauty lovers the gorgeous, intense cat-eye effect they’ve wanted and claims to offer volume, length and definition in just one swipe.

First impression

Housed in a glossy tube embossed with the brand’s signature check pattern, the Burberry Cat Lashes Mascara is sure to claim the title of chicest-looking product in your makeup bag. Outward appearance aside, the mascara has a lot to offer on the inside, as well.

To help users achieve a full, cat-eye look, Burberry has designed an innovative, hourglass-shaped wand that is different from any I have seen or used. While the wand’s midsection is outfitted with short, lash-hugging bristles to help achieve volume, the curves of the wand feature long, combing bristles meant to create a clump-free, fanned-out effect.

To cap things off, the wand also has a domed tip to help stretch and extend the outer eyelashes for the ultimate cat-eye.

Fab or flub?

Fab! In a market where mascaras are a dime a dozen, Burberry’s Cat Lashes Mascara sets itself apart, thanks to its one-of-a-kind wand.

With just one swipe, the wand’s lash-hugging bristles pack the power to take eyelashes from dull and lifeless to bold and defined. The long-wearing mascara works from root to tip to add instant volume and does an excellent job of separating and elongating eyelashes for a full, cat-eye effect.

Although I found the formula to be on the wet side, it was not messy to apply and it glided on effortlessly without clumping or flaking. It dried fast and left my eyelashes feeling soft, rather than dry and brittle.

This is only the second product I’ve ever tried from the Burberry makeup line (the other was a lipstick I found to be mediocre), but I was definitely impressed with the quality of the mascara.

Should you be in the market for a good makeup splurge, I highly recommend checking it out.
