Girl Scout cookie season is finally here and, if you’re like us, you probably can’t wait to get your hands on a box (or two) of your favorite cookie.
To help make the cookie buying experience easier, we compiled a list of information about this year’s cookie sale (which runs through Feb. 25) with a little help from our friends at the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains.
What kind of cookies are being sold this year?
While there are sadly no new cookie flavors to report this year, the good news is that the S’mores cookie (which was introduced in 2017) is back. Other cookies being sold include Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-a-Lots, Lemonades and Trios (the only gluten-free cookie offered by the Girl Scouts).
Where can I buy Girl Scout cookies?
Thanks to the internet and modern technology, it’s never been easier to track down a box of Girl Scout cookies.
To find a cookie booth nearby, visit www.girlscoutcookies.org and type in your ZIP code for a list of Girl Scout cookie booths in your area, as well as the dates and times that the booths will be open for business. If you don’t have access to a computer, the same information can be found by downloading the official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app to your mobile device (available for iOS and Android).
Since 2015, the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains also has been offering online cookie sales through the Digital Cookie program. Girl Scouts are given the option to set up their own online cookie business, which allows them to take orders over the internet and have the cookies either shipped directly to the customer’s front door or delivered by hand to those who live nearby. This year, most of the U.S. is now eligible for two-day shipping.
How much do cookies cost?
It might be hard to believe now, but when the Girl Scouts first began selling cookies they were sold in dozens for less than 50 cents. These days, a box of Girl Scout cookies in North Texas will set you back $4 per package. For those with food allergies, you’ll have to pay a little more ($5) for your box of gluten-free Trios.
Where does the money from Girl Scout cookie sales go?
All proceeds from the sale of Girl Scout cookies stay with the local council and are used to fund activities like community service projects and Girl Scout camp.
What is Project Troop to Troop?
Project Troop to Troop is one of the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains’ annual community service initiatives. The program allows customers to make donations to buy packages of Girl Scout cookies for U.S. military members. Each year, the GS-TOP partners with local nonprofit agencies and military bases to then send the cookies to soldiers overseas and stateside. Last year, more than 58,000 packages of cookies were donated through the initiative.
