Preston’s picks: Garth Brooks at American Airlines Center; Turnpike Troubadours at Strauss Square
Turnpike Troubadours at Strauss Square
The Oklahoma-formed Turnpike Troubadours more than live up to both parts of their name, logging thousands of miles across the country performing gritty, sharply observed songs for an ever-growing fanbase. The Evan Felker-led quintet is gearing up to release its new, self-titled studio album on Sept. 18, making Saturday’s al fresco gig in downtown Dallas something of a sneak peek (as a bonus, ticket buyers will receive a free copy of Turnpike Troubadours). With Jonny Burke.
7:30 p.m. Saturday. Strauss Square, Dallas. $38.
Garth Brooks at American Airlines Center
Before he sets a single boot inside the American Airlines Center for the first of seven shows, country superstar Garth Brooks, making his first public concert appearance in DFW in nearly two decades as part of an ongoing comeback, has already broken records. Once his seven-night AAC run is wrapped, he’ll hold the record for most consecutive shows performed at the venue, with more than 100,000 tickets sold. In other words, what was already going to be a very big deal is just that much bigger. With Trisha Yearwood.
7:30 p.m. Sept. 17. American Airlines Center, Dallas. $68.21.
