Texas film projects: ‘Landman,’ new horror film need extras. Here’s how to apply
Texas has seen a boom in film and television production over the last few years.
Whether it’s the latest project from Fort Worth native Taylor Sheridan in “Landman” or “Lioness,” or the newest season of the hit Biblical series “The Chosen,” Texas is firmly in the spotlight.
Production in the state is expected to get even bigger over the next decade if Gov. Greg Abbott signs Senate Bill 22 into law. The bill would deposit $300 million in the state’s film incentive fund every two years for the next decade, adding up to $1.5 billion total.
Texas-based Legacy Casting has posted a number of casting notices for projects filming across the state in June. Here’s a look at what’s filming and how to apply.
‘Landman’
Sheridan’s oil drama series “Landman” will continue filming in Texas in June.
The Billy Bob Thornton-led Paramount+ series has been filming season 2 in and around Fort Worth since March. The show has also stopped by Benbrook, Springtown, Cresson and Jacksboro to film scenes.
“Landman” will continue to film in Fort Worth this month, in addition to stops in Cresson and Strawn.
Legacy is looking for extras to play cowboys, trucker types, downtown pedestrians, oil show attendees and tourists at a honky tonk. These are all paid roles and vary on compensation depending on the job.

‘Family Movie’
Kevin Bacon and family are gearing up to star in the apty titled horror film “Family Movie.”
The film will star Bacon, his wife (and fellow actor) Kyra Sedgwick and their children Sosie and Travis Bacon. Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon will also co-direct the film with a screenplay from Dan Beers. Here’s a synopsis of the film:
“A filmmaking family finds themselves in a real-life horror movie when a body turns up on the set of their low-budget slasher, forcing them to cover up the murder to keep filming.”
“Family Movie” will film in Austin and Round Top, a small town about 80 miles east of the state’s capitol. Bacon has already been spotted in Round Top as filming is set to begin in late June.
There are a few casting notices available for the film, including as townsfolk, death metal music lovers and a photo double for actor Austin Amelio. Visit MyCastingFile to apply for roles in the film.
‘Atonement’
Indie drama “Atonement” starts production in Dallas in late June.
The film is based on the 2012 New Yorker piece of the same name about a troubled Marine who “seeks to reconcile with the survivors of an Iraqi family he and his unit fired on back in 2003.” Reed Van Dyk will write and direct the film.
“Atonement” stars Kenneth Branagh, Boyd Holbrook and Hiam Abbass.
The film will shoot at Dallas’ South Side Studios (2901 Botham Jean Blvd.) over the rest of June and into July.
Legacy is looking to cast roles as waiters, bartenders, engineers, club goers, coffee shop patrons and more. They are also looking to cast real-life Marines in the film. Visit MyCastingFile to apply for roles.
