‘Selena’ returns to theaters in 25th anniversary celebration
Rediscover the magic and allure of Selena when the movie portrayal of the late Tejano singer returns to the big screen in celebration of its 25th anniversary.
The biopic honoring Corpus Christi native Selena Quintanilla-Perez, who died in 1995 at age 23, is being re-released in movie theaters nationwide on Thursday, April 7.
The 1997 movie stars Jennifer Lopez as Selena, who quickly rose to fame as a Mexican-American Tejano singer in the 1990s and was crossing over into the English-language market before the shocking murder by her fan club president, Yolanda Saldivar.
Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, played by Edward James Olmos, had accused Saldivar of embezzling funds from the fan club and Selena’s boutiques.
Lopez, now 52, recently shared her excitement about the movie’s return on Instagram.
“This movie means so much to me ... Selena and her family mean so much to me, and I was so lucky to be chosen to play her,” Lopez wrote.
