This rumor was going around the other night at the ACM Awards at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, and now People has confirmation: Singer Randy Travis got married recently.
Travis’ rep confirmed the marriage, and the Cooke County clerk’s office in Texas told the magazine that Travis, 55, and longtime fiancee Mary Davis were married by Pastor Tommy Nelson from Denton. Cooke County is the county just to the north of Denton, with Gainesville the county seat.
Travis, who is still recovering from a stroke suffered nearly two years ago, made a surprise appearance at Sunday’s awards show, where he received a standing ovation after Lee Brice introduced him.
“With the awards in Dallas and celebrating 50 years, it's something Randy and I would not miss,” Davis said in a statement to People before the show. (Yes, we know, the awards weren’t technically in Dallas…)
Travis thanked his fans afterward in an open letter on his website. “It was an amazing gift to feel all of the love from you tonight in Dallas at the Academy of Country Music Awards,” the letter begins. “It has been a hard-fought and miraculous journey since my stroke two years ago, and I have gained a greater understanding of God’s grace and how quickly events can change us.”
This is Travis’ second marriage; according to IMDb, he was married to producer-actress Elizabeth Hatcher-Travis from 1991 to 2010.
