Interim Mayor Ray Landy is unopposed to complete the remaining year of the term of Andy Fontenot, who resigned for health reasons in February.

Occupation: Runs Martha Lopez Cleaning, her own cleaning business, and is a licensed cosmetologist.

About the candidate: Lopez is making her first run for office. She said she is running, in part, because she wants to see residents' complaints better addressed and ensure that the older areas of Westworth Village receive the same services that newer developments do.

Name: Tony Yeager

Occupation: Runs Tony Yeager Painting in Westworth Village

Background: Yeager, who graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1976, has owned a paint contracting business since 1983.

About the candidate: Yeager served two terms on the council from 2002 to 2006. He also was mayor pro tem for two of those years and on the board of the Westworth Redevelopment Authority. He chose not to run in 2006 after a contentious term that included the firing of the city's police chief. His priorities include building a new fire station and library.

Incumbent Melissa Huffman is unopposed and will keep her seat until 2010.

Name: George Davis

Background: Davis graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1973. He took courses at Tarrant County College and Mountain View College in Dallas, studying business administration and aviation management.

About the candidate: Davis served on the council from 1999 to 2003, including three years as mayor pro tem. He ran for mayor in 2003 and 2005 and lost. He said he wants to see the city invest in a new fire station, library and water storage tank and lower the property tax rate.

Name: John Hearon (incumbent)

About the candidate: Hearon did not return repeated calls from the Star-Telegram.

Sales-tax continuation

Voters will decide whether to continue a 0.25-cent sales tax that was first approved four years ago. The money has been used for repairing and rebuilding streets. The tax generated nearly $350,000 for fiscal 2008, according to City Administrator Gary Robinson.
