Name: Chris Coy

Background: This is Coy's first run for elected office. Coy served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for 12 years, including a term as vice chairman. Before that, he served on the Board of Zoning Adjustments for five years, including a stint as chairman, and planning and zoning liaison to the Grapevine Historic Preservation Commission. He has master's and bachelor's degrees in business administration.

About the candidate: Coy said he wants to increase services while lowering tax rates; make sure the work on the Cotton Belt commuter rail line and on freeway improvements takes place on schedule; make sure the city's developments have attractive landscaping and appropriate signage; and maintain a walkable historic district on and around Main Street.

Name: Phil Lang

Age: 42

Occupation: Printing salesman

Background: Lang attended Oklahoma State University before joining Nieman Printing, where he has also been a pressman and a planner-estimator. This is his first run for elected office.

About the candidate: Lang wants to promote conservative values, maintain the quality of life in Grapevine, and promote the city's historic and shopping venues.

Occupation: Stay-at-home mom; former Army Corps of Engineers park ranger

Background: St. John has a bachelor’s degree with a double major in history and English and a minor in anthropology from Stephen F. Austin State University, where she graduated cum laude. St. John served on the Roanoke City Council from 1999 to 2001 and served five years on the Grapevine Planning and Zoning Commission. Other community service work includes membership in the Dove Elementary school PTA and the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division.

About the candidate: She wants to maintain stability in Grapevine’s government and the community and believes she will bring a fresh perspective to meet the challenges of freeway and commuter rail projects, real estate development, taking care of residents’ concerns and maintaining a high level of city services.

Name: Traci Wilkinson

Age: 42

Occupation: Attorney and small-business operator

Background: Wilkinson has a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Texas Tech University and a law degree from Texas Wesleyan University. This is Wilkinson’s third run for City Council. In the 2006 election, she was defeated by Mayor William D. Tate. Last year she lost in a runoff against Mike Lease for the Place 3 seat. Community service includes work with the Grapevine Heritage Foundation and serving as the 2008 chairwoman of Special Olympics with the Rotary Club.

About the candidate: Wilkinson wants to maintain a stable City Council; build on past successes, such as bringing the Great Wolf Lodge and the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center to the city; and offer fresh ideas for reaching the council’s goals. Wilkinson said she will listen carefully to residents’ concerns.
