Christmas in Galveston

Christmas in Galveston can be an especially festive time of year. And there are a number of special events that kick off the season. Here are just a few highlights: Festival of Lights at Moody Gardens, Nov. 14. A mile-long trail of more than a million lights, animated displays and an ice rink. Open 6-10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, through Dec. 16. Open nightly Dec. 17 through Jan. 2. Tickets are $5.95. Santa By the Sea, 2:30-6:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Tremont Ballroom, in the Davidson Building, 2300 Mechanic. After some entertainment, Santa "lights" the tree on the Strand at 7 p.m.

ArtWalk, 6-9 p.m. Nov. 28 in downtown Galveston. More than 25 venues are scheduled to participate. The Tremont House will host the last of a series of historic postcard presentations by Rosenberg Library as part of this event. 20th Annual East End Historic Homes Tour, 6 p.m. Dec. 4. The tour begins at the Grand 1894 Opera House and features five decorated homes that exemplify Galveston’s Victorian architecture. Schlitterbahn Galveston Island’s Heated Indoor Season, now through Jan. 3, with 12 heated attractions. For more info an all the events, visit www.galveston.com.
