BROWNSVILLE — The U.S. government has agreed to build a removable border fence segment between the Rio Grande and a Brownsville city park.
In so doing, the government’s scrapping plans to build permanent fencing in the downtown park. The Brownsville Herald reported Monday that the fence will skirt the southern edge of Alice Wilson Hope Park. That’ll preserve the space and leave open the possibility for riverfront development. The temporary solution had been under negotiation for months and has been used in other areas where flood concerns didn’t allow the government to build permanent fencing.
