Texan ousted as 'American Idol' race is down to 3

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Who got the boot: Jason Castro

Bottom two: Castro and Syesha Mercado

Who should've gotten the boot: You guessed it -- Castro. His obvious indifference to both Bob Marley and Bob Dylan would've been plenty, but the unrepentant way he spectacularly flubbed Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man was more than enough reason to give the Texan the hook.

Our favorite performer of the week: Aww, do we have to pick one? All right -- David Cook, if only because his renditions of Duran Duran and The Who were way, way less cloying than David Archuleta's attempts with Ben E. King and Elvis Presley.

Memorable moment of the week: Mercado weeping uncontrollably after performing Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come and wrongheadedly trying to compare her rise on Idol to the civil-rights movement.

Line of the week: "We're running out of time! Hell's Kitchen's gonna start." -- Host Ryan Seacrest to judge Randy Jackson as his comments began to get a bit long-winded.
