Here’s a fact that ought to make any football-loving couch potato proud:
Arlington is now officially home to the world’s largest TV.Officials from Guinness World Records were on hand Monday night to certify that Cowboys Stadium’s Mitsubishi LED Diamond Vision was the largest high-definition video display known to mankind. The previous record holder was a mega-display at Tokyo Racecourse — a screen also made by Mitsubishi. The christening took place before the Monday Night Football kickoff of the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Panthers.Mark Foster, general manager of Mitsubishi Electric’s Diamond Vision Systems, predicted that the Cowboys’ record is safe for a while. Team owner Jerry Jones made the video board the centerpiece of the new stadium. It measures 160 feet wide and 72 feet tall and hangs 90 feet above the playing field."We certainly have the technology to go larger," Foster said in a phone interview before the game. "We just need to find another customer with vision."Foster added that there are no hard feelings about the National Football League forcing the Cowboys to remove the Mitsubishi ads on the bottom of the video board after a Tennessee Titans punter struck the board during a preseason game.Monday’s Guinness World Records ceremony also served as the unveiling of new Mitsubishi ads on the top of the video board.GORDON DICKSON, 817-390-7796
