ARLINGTON -- "Monday Night Football" might create an afternoon headache for commuters traveling through Arlington's entertainment district today.

Plazas at Cowboys Stadium opened at 4 p.m. for the Dallas Cowboys' game against the Carolina Panthers, which starts at 7:30 p.m. More than 100,000 fans packed the stadium for last weekend's regular-season debut.

Fans and rush-hour commuters are cautioned to allow for more time traveling through the area.

“We just want to encourage people, if you work in the city, that you take a route that doesn’t take you near the stadium if you can help it,” Arlington police spokeswoman Tiara Ellis Richard said. “Just be prepared for slowdowns.”

Stadium-goers are encouraged to follow directions provided through the Cowboys Stadium parking and traffic site, dallascowboysmaps.com.

Richard said fans can avoid traffic congestion after the game by heading west or south away from the stadium.
