For a team currently ranked No. 4 in the country, TCU sure isn’t being shown any respect from Lubbock.

A 2010 "unofficial schedule" for Texas Tech briefly appeared on the Red Raiders’ athletic Web site Wednesday, showing Tech playing Texas Sept. 18, the date the Horned Frogs are supposedly playing the Red Raiders in Lubbock.

No one from TCU would comment, but Tech athletic director Gerald Myers tried to smooth things over late Wednesday.

"That schedule is really unofficial," Myers said. "We’ve still got some work to do on that. We don’t have the contracts signed for a couple of those games. We just inadvertently got that up on our Web site."

Myers said Tech’s four-game contract with TCU will be honored, even if it’s delayed a season. The contract is for a 2004 game in Lubbock, a 2006 game in Fort Worth and games in 2010 and 2011 (Fort Worth).

"I haven’t talked to the TCU AD," Myers said. "We’re going to play them. Whether it’s next year or beyond, I can’t say at this point. The game will be played. We’re not canceling any games."

Meanwhile, Texas media relations director John Bianco said any announcement was premature. Texas is already scheduled to host UCLA on Sept. 18, 2010.

"It has been discussed," Bianco said of a schedule change. "But it’s far from a done deal."

A journalist’s journey

One Great Season, which could be the title of TCU’s 2009 campaign thus far, is the Web site ( onegreatseason.com) and potential book by John P. Wise, an Ohio native traveling the country on a quest to see the biggest games in college football. This week he’s in Fort Worth for Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. Mountain West Conference showdown between fourth-ranked TCU (9-0, 5-0) and 16th-ranked Utah (8-1, 5-0).

Wise, 39, has worked in the news media business the last 15 years, but lost his job this summer. Instead of immediately seeking a new job he decided to pursue a lifelong passion. He has been on the sidelines for games such as USC at Ohio State, Florida at LSU, and last week he saw Ohio State at Penn State.

Next, it’s Harvard at Yale or Ohio State at Michigan.

Luncheon moved

With TCU expecting its largest crowd ever, today’s Frog Club luncheon with Gary Patterson has been moved to the Brown-Lupton University Union (Stadium Drive). The weekly gathering is at noon.

’84 team reunion

TCU’s 1984 Bluebonnet Bowl team will be honored during halftime Saturday as they celebrate its 25th anniversary. The team went 8-4 and 5-3 in the Southwest Conference, losing to West Virginia 31-14 at the Astrodome. One of Amon G. Carter Stadium’s largest-ever crowds (47,280) saw the No. 12 Frogs lose to No. 10 Texas 44-23 on Nov. 17, 1984.

Injury update

Cornerback Rafael Priest saw some action in practice Wednesday, but strong safety Colin Jones is still sidelined. Both players missed last week’s San Diego State game with injuries and are questionable for Saturday. Priest (ankle) and Jones (hamstring) were replaced by Greg McCoy and Tyler Luttrell against the Aztecs. Each had an interception Saturday.

Hughes up for Lott

Jerry Hughes was named one of eight semifinalists for the Lott Trophy, which honors the top defensive player by considering athletic performance and personal character. The four finalists will be named Nov. 24. Hughes was named one of four finalists for the Lombardi Award.
