Potent offense helps Birdville advance to 4A regional quarterfinals

Birdville had four players with at least 10 kills in a 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 victory over Stephenville in a Class 4A area-round match Thursday at Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City.

Birdville (31-9) meets the winner of today’s Mansfield Legacy-Denton Guyer match in the regional quarterfinals.

Caitlyn Juarez (19 kills, 19 digs) led the Lady Hawks, and she got plenty of help from Brittany Gordon (10 kills, 14 digs), Chandler Keilberg (10 kills, 14 digs) and Ellen Sorrells (10 kills).

"Stephenville hit really, really well in the first game and we had to make a few adjustments," Birdville coach Courtney Grimes said. "It took a little while to kick in."

Granbury def. The Colony: The Pirates (26-20) edged out The Colony 25-21, 23-25, 29-27, 16-25, 15-13 in a 4A area-round match at White Settlement Brewer.

Krystal Wunderlich recorded 22 kills, 12 digs and four solo blocks in the win, while teammate Stacey Wilson added eight kills, five aces and six digs. Granbury setter Chelsea White had 38 assists and nine kills. Pirates libero Makenzie Scanlan led he team with 18 digs.

Denton Ryan def. Arlington Seguin: In a 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20 loss at Coppell High School, the Cougars (37-8) were led by Christine McCartney (23 kills) and Ezon Onditi (13 kills).
