The Cowboys claimed offensive guard Donald Hawkins off waivers from the Cleveland Browns. They released offensive tackle John Wetzel to make room for Hawkins on the 53-player roster.

The 6-foot-4, 301-pound Hawkins is an undrafted rookie from Texas, where he started 24 of 25 games as a two-year contributor. He has been released twice already, beginning the preseason with the Eagles. The Eagles released Hawkins after he played three preseason games for them. He was claimed by the Browns last week before being released by them Saturday.

Hawkins becomes the fourth true guard on the roster, joining Zack Martin, Ronald Leary and Mackenzy Bernadeau. The release of Wetzel leaves the Cowboys with four tackles – Tyron Smith, Doug Free, Jermey Parnell and Darrion Weems.
