Defensive tackle Terrell McClain knew what he was dealing with when he suffered a high-ankle sprain. He had one in college, so he knew it was going to be a slow return to health.
“That’s what it is, making sure when I come back I’m not going to have any setbacks, trying to reinjure it,” McClain said. “We want everything to be 100 percent when I get back.”
McClain injured his right ankle during the team’s second padded practice in Oxnard. He continued his rehab at Valley Ranch on Tuesday with 90 minutes of conditioning.
McClain said he is running straight ahead, but he has yet to start cutting.
Never miss a local story.
“I’ll probably, most likely, miss this game,” McClain said. “But hopefully within the next week, I’ll be able to get back to full practicing.”
McClain, who signed as a free agent in March, would like to play in the final preseason game. He is playing both the under tackle and the nose tackle positions after being in a 3-4 defense last year in Houston.
“To me, it is just to get a game out of the way, to get that game speed back,” McClain said. “I feel like that will help me out in the long run. I want to do it, so I’m just going to see how things progress.”
