DALLAS – Lost in the euphoria of Dirk Nowitzki’s milestone and the Dallas Mavericks’ amazing comeback win over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday was an injury to point guard Jameer Nelson.
The 11-year veteran went down hard late in the third quarter and limed off the court holding the back of his right leg. However, he was able to return and play two minutes and 11 seconds of the fourth quarter.
"We think he’s going to be OK,’’ coach Rick Carlisle. "It was scary, he hit the ground, he felt something, but he did return and I was told that he was able to go back in the game, so hopefully we’re hoping it’s nothing serious.
"It doesn’t seem like it at this point. He’s going to get treatment tomorrow, obviously, and then we’ll see where we are, but we think he’s OK.’’
Nelson finished the Mavs’ 106-98 victory over the Kings with five points and five assists in 26 minutes. Nowitzki, meanwhile, finished the night in ninth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list after passing Hakeem Olajuwon on Tuesday.
