About the Kings: At season’s end, Sacramento will be headed to the NBA Draft Lottery again. But they have some promising pieces. ... DeMarcus Cousins, Isaiah Thomas and Rudy Gay are a trio that the Kings can build around. Cousins averages 22.5 points and 11.8 rebounds. Thomas runs the show from his point guard spot and averages 20.7 points and 6.4 assists. Gay is averaging 20 points per game. ... Former Mavs guard Jason Terry is a member of the Kings. Terry joined Sacramento during a midseason trade, but the Kings have allowed him to spend the rest of the season at his Dallas-area home rehabbing an injured left knee.
About the Mavericks: A record eight-game homestand hasn’t gone well so far. Dallas is just 3-3 and will host the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday after Saturday’s game. ... The Mavs can’t seem to finish off games after building a lead. ... They are coming off Thursday’s 109-103 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in a game they led 93-82 with 8:40 left. The Clippers ended the last 1:34 of the game on a 12-2 run. ... Swingman Vince Carter has been playing some of his best basketball of the season over the past six weeks. Carter scored a team-high 23 points Thursday in helping the bench outscore the Clippers’ reserves 51-21.
