With a chance to get some playing time, the Dallas Mavericks assigned center Bernard James, forward Jae Crowder and rookie guard Shane Larkin to play for the Frisco-based Texas Legends of the D-League on Thursday afternoon.
All three players will be in uniform when the Legends host Los Angeles tonight at 7 in Frisco at Dr Pepper Arena.
In a related matter, the Mavericks recalled guard Rick Ledo from the D-League on Thursday.
Coach Rick Carlisle has repeatedly said he doesn't have a doghouse. But neither James, Crowder or Larkin has played much lately, and a stint in the D-League will afford them that playing time.
A starter earlier this season, Crowder did not play last Saturday against Detroit, played the last 4 seconds of the third quarter on Monday against New York, and got in for only 2 minutes Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Meanwhile, in 22 games since Jan. 11, James did not play in 15 of them because of a coach's decision and totaled just 16 minutes in the other seven games. Also, in 14 games since Jan. 26, Larkin didn't play in six of them due to a coach's decision and was in for only 51 minutes in the other eight games.
As far as Ledo is concerned, he's played 27 games for the Legends this season and averaged 12.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
There's a very good chance that Crowder, James and Larkin will be back with the Mavericks when they host the Chicago Bulls on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at American Airlines Center.
