Michael Waltrip will run in his 30th Daytona 500 on Sunday, and then walk away from racing for good. It’ll be his 784th start at the NASCAR Cup level and end a career that saw him visit Victory Lane four times.
Two of those wins came at the Daytona 500 in 2001 and 2003 for the 53-year-old Waltrip.
“I just thought it was a cool place to run my last race,” said Waltrip, who will start 30th and drive the No. 15 Toyota.
“I love coming to Daytona. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, so every time you talk about coming to Daytona, I get a big smile on my face.”
