ARLINGTON Jay Bruce had a home run, double and four RBI as the Cincinnati Reds snapped the Texas Rangers’ seven-game win streak with an 8-2 win Tuesday at Globe Life Park.
Pitching: Jay Bruce’s three-run homer in the first gave the Reds a three-run lead against Colby Lewis. Lewis regrouped and retired 11 consecutive batters after the homer until the fifth. He surrendered consecutive singles to start the fifth before Zack Cozart’s two-run triple. Cozart scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Reds a 6-2 lead.
Lewis was charged with six runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Cesar Ramos started the sixth and after allowing the first two batters to single he forced three fly outs. The Reds added two more in the seventh against Ramos. Cozart homered and Brandon Phillips scored on Bruce’s double to make it 8-2.
Hitting: In the second, Adrian Beltre reached on an infield single and Jurickson Profar followed with a two-run homer to pull the Rangers to within 3-2.
Moreland singled in the eighth and eventually moved to third on Shin-Soo Choo’s fly out to center. He tried to score on Ian Desmond’s flyout to center but was thrown out to end the inning.
Notable: Lewis was charged with six earned runs in five innings. In his previous four starts combined, he had allowed a total of five earned runs in 29 innings ... 32,291 was announced paid attendance.
