Josh Hamilton will begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Double A Frisco. Hamilton has been playing in extended spring games in Arizona, including going 2 for 5 with two singles Thursday. Hamilton has been on the disabled list since having knee surgery in February.
Hamilton’s return to the Rangers could come by the end of next week, depending on how quickly he’s able to hit some marks, including playing consecutive nine-inning games and how his body reacts. Banister said he’d like Hamilton to get between 35 and 45 at-bats between extended spring games and minor league games. He’s already had about 15 ABs in Airzona, so he’s still looking at 20-30 necessary ABs before the Rangers would be ready to put him back on the 25-man roster.
