Texas Rangers rookie outfielder Jake Smolinski has been put on the disabled list for a bruised left foot. Smolinski fouled off a pitch in the sixth inning at New York on Monday. His DL stint is retroactive to July 22.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Smolinski, who is batting .389 in 11 games since being called up on July 7, still has some discomfort.

“We want to make sure it’s right,” Washington said. “We’re looking at maybe 10 days, 11 days. Give him a chance to heal 100 percent.”
