Ron Washington is going with his gut over numbers today.
He’s giving Alex Rios a day off, Rios’ first since being acquired by the Rangers last August. Rios has played in 126 consecutive games, including the first 79 this season.
Washington said he knew Rios has a career .481 average with five RBIs against Twins starter Phil Hughes, but felt his everyday right fielder has looked sluggish the past few days. Rios is 0 for his last 15.
Michael Choice is starting in right field, and Washington has designated hitter Donnie Murphy batting fifth.
