Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington had planned to give shorstop Elvis Andrus a day off Thursday and third baseman Adrian Beltre a quasi-day off as the designated hitter. Washington stuck to the Andrus idea, but had to stick Beltre back in the field.

Shin-Soo Choo made a request to serve as the DH to give his injured left ankle a little rest with a quick turnaround from Wednesday’s night game. Washington granted the request, but hopes to get Beltre time off soon.

“I’ll have to start working it in,” Washington said. “But the way things have been happening for us and the way we’ve been trying to get things going in the right direction, it was hard to do.”

Andrus had played 77 straight games dating to last season and the first 53 of the 2014 before getting his first day off. Luis Sardinas gets the start against the Twins after beating them Wednesday with a seventh-inning two-out RBI single.
