The Rangers are planning to give Shin-Soo Choo as much of the 10-day maximum to backdate a DL move, which means that Michael Choice will get more time as the leadoff man and left fielder.
Choice is back in those spots Sunday for the fifth consecutive game. So far, the Rangers are 3-1 when he’s their leadoff hitter. Though he entered Sunday only 3 or 16 in the past four games, he had drawn five walks, driven in three runs and scored two.
“He’s holding his own,” manager Ron Washington said. “He’s finding a way to get on the bases once or twice a game. Since we’ve put him in, we’ve only lost one game. I’m not complaining.”
Washington also isn’t complaining about catcher Robinson Chirinos. The Rangers are 11-2 when he starts a game, and Washington never considered starting J.P. Arencibia even though Chirinos caught a night game ahead of Sunday’s day game.
