Manager Ron Washington took advantage of a left-hander on the mound Tuesday for Boston to give Adrian Beltre a day at designated hitter, and give the third baseman a day off his feet in the relatively chilly conditions at Fenway Park.

Lefty hitters Mitch Moreland and Leonys Martin both got a day off instead of facing Felix Doubront. Michael Choice starts for Martin in center field, and fellow righty hitter Josh Wilson starts at third base.

Donnie Murphy gets a third straight start at second base. He and Wilson are both capable of playing third as career utility men, but Washington went with the known commodity.

“I’ve never seen Murphy play third,” Washington said. “Josh played third for us in spring.”
