Manager Ron Washington said that the second baseman jumped to seventh as some early-season tinkering continues.

The latest news and notes about the Texas Rangers

As far as lineup changes go, the one manager Ron Washington made Friday to the Texas Rangers’ batting order is fairly insignificant.

Second baseman Donnie Murphy will bat seventh after batting ninth in his previous start, and catcher J.P. Arencibia drops to ninth after batting seventh in two of the first three games.

The reason?

“I wanted to move Murphy up higher,” Washington said.

Washington also wanted to keep alternating right-handed and left-handed batters, beginning with righty Alex Rios in the No. 5 spot. Cleanup hitters Adrian Beltre and Rios are the only instance of consecutive hitters from the same side.

The move wasn’t a knock against Arencibia, who Washington said has had good at-bats so far this season.
