Prince Fielder homered in consecutive games Thursday and Friday and is leading the team in extra-base hits (8) and total bases (28).
With Opening Day eight days away, the Rangers’ three-hole batter feels he’s ready for the season.
“I feel good, that’s the key,” Fielder said. “Especially now in spring, just trying to feel good before you leave here. That’s what I try to focus on.”
Fielder is expected to become a presence in the middle of the lineup, batting between Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre. He is coming off a down year, but still had 25 home runs and 106 RBIs for the Tigers last season.
Fielder has hit at least 25 home runs for the past eight seasons and has driven in 100 or more runs six of the past seven.
“I just try to hit the ball hard, whatever that means,” Fielder said. “I don’t know. I just try to hit it hard.”
As far as what he believes the Rangers can do this season, Fielder said: “Winning a lot of games, obviously, and seeing if we can really make a good push at winning everything. We definitely have the talent to do it. I don’t see why we can’t, but we still have to go out there and do it so you never know.”
