Right-hander Ross Ohlendforf, who has been plagued by injuries this season, including multiple groin strains since joining the Rangers in spring training, was designated for assignment before Monday’s game.
Right-hander Phil Klein was recalled from Triple A Round Rock. Anthony Bass, who had allowed three earned runs on four hits in his last two innings over the weekend in Anaheim. Klein has been superb for Round Rock this season. He has an 0.91 ERA in 29 2/3 innings. This is his third stint with the Rangers this season and first since May 20-27.
Texas has 10 days to trade, release, or outright Ohlendorf to the minor leagues. The Rangers hoped Ohlendorf would be a worthy arm in long relief coming out of spring training but injuries slowed his progress.
“It’s unfortunate that Ross has been nicked up and injured for most part of the year, coming out of spring training,” Banister said. “Given an opportunity, I think we’d entertain the thought of keeping Ross in the organization if that’s a possibility on his side.”
