NEW YORK Prince Fielder had his first two-homer game Friday in more than two seasons, including a three-run homer in a seven-run third inning that lifted the Texas Rangers to a 10-9 victory over the New York Yankees.
The Rangers led 7-0, but saw the Yankees score four in the fourth against Colby Lewis and add another in the eighth. Lewis allowed five runs in 6 2/3 innings, but misplays by Shin-Shoo Choo and Elvis Andrus distorted Lewis’ line.
Fielder’s third-inning blast to the second deck in right field was the highlight as the Rangers’ sent 10 batters to the plate against Michael Pineda, who struck out 16 during his previous start at Yankee Stadium.
Mitch Moreland followed two batters later with another second-deck shot, a solo homer to cap an inning that started with a Leonys Martin single, a Robinson Chirinos walk and a Pineda error as Tommy Field sacrificed.
Delino DeShields followed with a fielder’s choice, but two runs scored on an error on shortstop Didi Gregorius. Shin-Soo Choo followed with an RBI single ahead of Fielder’s sixth homer of the season.
Fielder went deep again in the seventh, this time a solo shot. He hadn’t hit two homers in the same game since April 5, 2012.
