Pitching: Yovani Gallardo didn’t get much help from his defense but he wasn’t especially on either. He allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits in five innings. The bullpen didn’t fare much better. Roman Mendez pitched a perfect sixth but Logan Verrett was touched for three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk.
Hitting: With two outs in the first, Adrian Beltre and Prince Fielder both walked, followed by a hit-by-pitch by Shin-Soo Choo to load the bases. Robinson Chirinos walked to drive in a run. That’s where the Rangers offense ended, at least until they scored four in the top of the ninth with the game out of reach. They had three hits through the first eight innings, including the first in the fifth by Gallardo. They didn’t have a runner reach second base between the second and eighth innings. Beltre led off the ninth with a solo homer to left. The Rangers scored three more times, twice on ground outs and a single to right from Leonys Martin.
Notables: Entering Wednesday’s game the Rangers had grounded into four double plays. They did it four times in Wednesday’s game.
