Pitching: Left-hander Ross Detwiler allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits in four innings, although he didn’t get a lot of help from his infield. And the infielders didn’t get a lot of help from bad hops too, including one to second baseman Elliot Johnson and one to shortstop Ed Lucas. But Johnson’s error on a high three to first helped lead to a four-run second for the Reds. Typically, Detwiler’s induced grounders would have been outs. He didn’t pitch poorly, striking out four and walking none. Jamey Wright worked a clean fifth inning but walked three in the sixth and was charged for a run. Kyuji Fujikawa struckout one and allowed a hit in 1 1/3 innings.
Hitting: Mitch Moreland had three of the Rangers six hits, including his first double of the spring with a shot to the gap in right-center in the sixth. Thomas Field doubled in the seventh. The Rangers left nine runners on and were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position.
Notable: Adam Rosales made four sparkling stops at third base, including one that first deflected off Detwiler’s glove on the mound before Rosales picked it up and made the out at first.
