Adrian Beltre of the Texas Rangers is rated as the top third baseman in the game on the MLB Network show The Top 10 Third Basemen Right Now.
The rankings are based on offensive and defensive metrics and projections for the upcoming seasons, but even the two hosts of the show — numbers freak Brian Kenny and former big-league third baseman Mike Lowell — gave their non-computer-generated vote to Beltre.
The hosts seemed wowed that Beltre has maintained his stellar play, and even gotten better, despite being the oldest player on the list.
Beltre topped Josh Donaldson, now with Toronto, and Pittsburgh’s Josh Harrison. For a video of the top 10, with the reveal of the top two, click here.
