Rangers minor league catcher J.P. Arencibia and Kimberly Perry, lead singer of The Band Perry, were married Thursday near her family’s home in Greeneville, Tenn.
A publicist for the band confirmed the wedding occurred Thursday. According to The Greeneville Sun, the couple was married at a small chapel in the heart of the town’s historic district and fellow country star Carrie Underwood was spotted at the wedding along with her husband, Mike Fisher of the NHL’s Nashville Predators.
Arencibia had been the regular catcher for Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish earlier this season but was optioned to Triple A Round Rock in May.
The wedding reception took place at the bride’s parents’ home, which was where Arencibia made a romantic proposal last September in front of her family.
Perry and her two brothers, Reid and Neil, signed with Universal Republic in 2009 and had a quadruple platinum hit with If I Die Young. They are the 2014 Academy of Country Music Vocal Group of the Year.
Arencibia, was born and grew up in Miami but played in college at Tennessee. He was a 2007 first-round draft pick of Toronto and had been in the Blue Jays’ organization until becoming a free agent in December. He signed a one-year contract with the Rangers a week later.
