Adrian Beltre continues to be day to day for the Texas Rangers, and the club has yet to make a decision whether their star slugger needs to go on the disabled list.
Beltre, sidelined with tightness in his left quad, is progressing and the team is expected to make a decision this weekend.
“Just have to go through some treatment and see how it feels,” manager Ron Washington said. “And we’ll make a call.”
Kevin Kouzmanoff is starting at third base in place of Beltre. It’s Kouzmanoff’s first start since Sept. 28, 2011, as the veteran infielder was called up Wednesday and used as a pinch-hitter.
Never miss a local story.
“I’m excited to be in there obviously,” Kouzmanoff said. “I’ll try to help the team win any way I can, but just another day at the office.”
With Beltre out, Washington also adjusted his lineup. Prince Fielder has been dropped from the three-hole to Beltre’s cleanup spot, and Alex Rios is batting third.
Washington said Fielder has more experience in the cleanup spot than Rios, which is why he made the switch.
