Rangers manager Ron Washington got his first chance to try out the league’s new replay rule Tuesday, but it wasn’t the most dramatic of calls.

The Angels scored three runs after Washington’s failed challenge in the seventh inning to win 7-4 at Tempe Diablo Stadium. With one out, J.B. Shuck walked and stole second against pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla. Washington thought shortstop Adam Rosales applied the tag.

“It was fun,” Washington said. “From my vantage point, I thought he might have him out.”

The umpires met briefly and waited for the replay umpire to rule. About 90 seconds later, the safe call was upheld.

The Angels continued the rally, helped by Jim Adduci’s fielding error that allowed Brennan Boesch to reach and Shuck to third. Collin Cowgill drove both in with a double to left and later scored on Grant Green’s single to right.
